His tweet’s first comment features an animation of Carrie sandwiched between Dan and John Belushi on Saturday Night Live, where she hosted in 1978 with The Blues Brothers (Aykroyd and John Belushi) as the musical guests.
Fisher joined The Blues Brothers again as the machine gun wielding ex lover of Belushi’s BB character, in the duo’s self-titled 1980 hit film. It was also where Kingston area resident Dan Aykroyd and Carrie Fisher got engaged.
She told the AV Club how that relationship came about:
“You know, Belushi set us up by calling me and saying, “Come down. There’s this thing at my apartment.” And I arrived there, and he passed out and left me alone with Danny. That’s the Belushi blind date.”
In a 2008 Chicago Tribune interview, Fisher revealed how they became engaged:
“He proposed in the trailer on set. He was forcing me to eat because I was very thin in those days — no longer — and I inhaled a Brussels sprout, and I started choking.
He thought I was laughing, and then he saw that I was dying, and he did the Heimlich maneuver, and then like 10 minutes later he asked me to marry him, and I thought, “I better marry him. What if that happens again?”
We had rings, we got blood tests, the whole shot. But then I got back together with Paul Simon.”
Fisher and Simon married in 1983, divorced a year later but continued dating for another 8 years.
Simon tweeted his own tribute earlier today, writing: “Yesterday was a horrible day. Carrie was a special, wonderful girl. It’s too soon.”
