Avril Lavigne gave fans a special Christmas present this year by announcing she will release a new album in 2017.
The singer – who was raised in nearby Napanee – posted a tease video on Christmas eve alongside her tree and gifts, letting them know the “most important” present was for her fans.
That gift was announced by Avril on Christmas day when she posted to Instagram:
Hi Everyone!!
I wanted to first thank my fans for your patience & support during my time away throughout my battle with Lyme Disease over the past 2 years. It hasn’t just been a hard battle but it’s also been enlightening and will reflect in my new music, artistry, life, and personally.
I will always continue to make it a priority to fight and raise awareness about Lyme Disease with the Avril Lavigne foundation.
I’m really happy to announce that I am now working on new music and I will be releasing a new album in 2017. I can’t wait to open up and share my heart with you! I’m excited for you guys to hear the new songs. It’s going to be an amazing 2017!
The Avril Lavigne Foundation was founded in 2010 and the performer has maintained a long history of charitable work, including this past autumn when her annual Birthday Party Fundraiser resulted in over $45,000 in donations to help kids get treatment for Lyme Disease.
Last year, she released the song ‘Fly’ for the Special Olympics World Games, where she performed live at its opening ceremony and donated all proceeds to her charity’s work.
Avril’s last album came out in 2013 and featured a number of hit singles, including ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’, ‘Rock N Roll’, ‘Hello Kitty’, and her ‘Let Me Go’ duet with Nickleback’s Chad Kroager.
She has sold more than 35 million copies of her five albums and over 50 million singles in her career.
