The Kingston Sheep Dog Trials Festival, sponsored by Subaru of Kingston, will take place from Friday, August 11, to Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Grass Creek Park.

The event features border collies herding sheep in timed trials and various family-friendly attractions.

Emily Matpan, Assistant Supervisor of Special Events, encourages attendees to enjoy the rural, summer festival with family and friends. Admission fees for 2023 have been waived, and instead, entry will be by donation. No tickets are required for this event.

The sheep dog trials will run daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to the trials, the festival will include the following attractions:

  • Market vendors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, offering items for dogs and their owners.
  • Local food vendors with a selection of food and treats.
  • On-site ATM for convenience.
  • Dog Agility Shows, three shows daily (times TBD).
  • Horse-Carriage Racing on Saturday (Approx. 12 p.m.).
  • Access to the beach and boat ramp.
  • Utilities Kingston water buggy for refilling water bottles.
  • Sheep to Shawl demonstrations and Silent Auction on Sunday.
  • Kingston Sheep Dog Trials tent with merchandise options.
  • Ample on-site parking.

Festivalgoers bringing their dogs are reminded to keep them on a leash while at the event. Attendees are also advised to bring sunscreen and refillable water bottles, with the Utilities Kingston water buggy providing a water station.

Grass Creek Park, located at 2991 Highway 2, adjacent to the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum, offers accessible parking, drop-off areas, and portable washrooms. For accessibility inquiries, contact Emily Matpan at

During the festival, Grass Creek Beach will be open, but the dog park will be closed to the public from August 7 to August 15.
