Vision for Kingston has announced a new fundraising event based on the popular television series, the Great British Bake Off, with amateur bakers from across the city invited to compete in the Great Kingston Bake Off.

Competitors will be tasked with creating winter-themed cakes and cookies to be sampled by a team of local celebrity judges who will award prizes for appearance and taste. A People’s Choice award will go to the best overall entry.

The competition takes place on Saturday, December 7 between 4 and 6pm at St Paul’s Church Hall, 137 Queen Street.

Bakers interested in entering the contest should arrive by 3.30 pm and will pay $15 sliding scale to submit their treats. Guests will pay $30 sliding scale (kids under 12 enter for free) and enjoy all-you-can-eat cake and cookie entries. Organizers say there will also be door prizes and an update on the Capital condo appeal.

Vision for Kingston supporters have raised more than $80,000 towards the ongoing appeal by Building Kingston’s Future and the Frontenac Heritage Foundation against the 16-storey Capital condo building at 223 Princess Street.

“The latest round of fundraising will help pay for the Divisional Court Hearing at which IN8 Developments will appeal the Local Planning Tribunal’s 2018 decision to prohibit a building of this height,” according to a release. The hearing is scheduled to take place early in 2020.
