Brant Peppley, Director of the Queen’s-RMC Fuel Cell Research Center (FCRC), has been presented with an award for his research with Fuel Cells.

The annual Community Leadership Award was presented to him by SWITCH, a member-based, non-profit organization dedicated to turning Kingston into a hub for sustainable energy.

“This is a wonderful award,” said Dr. Peppley, in a Queen’s University release. “It’s pretty amazing that Kingston, as a community, has an organization like SWITCH and continues to support it. It says a lot about the attitudes and principles of our community – and that’s encouraging.”

Along with being Director of the FCRC, Professor Peppley is jointly appointed to the departments of Mechanical, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical and Materials Engineering in Queen’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. He is currently partnering with industry to brainstorm solutions for clean energy development.

Tyson Champagne, Executive Director of SWITCH – which recently celebrated their 10th anniversary of connecting organizations and people working on sustainable energy in Kingston – said that Peppley has “gone through all the ups and downs of maintaining a research facility. He’s also been a big supporter of SWITCH since the beginning of this organization.”

SWITCH was created in response to the question of how to make Kingston a more appealing destination for companies interested in clean energy, with a local company making fuel cells at that time being the anchor for the organization’s creation.

Dr. Peppley was honored earlier this month with the Community Leadership Award at the SWITCH Sustainable Energy Awards and Harvest Luncheon.
