The City is reminding residents that they can keep tabs on which roads the snowplows have cleared thanks to the Snowplow Tracker app.
Different colours on the app’s map – which covers all Kingston streets and residential areas -indicate the last time a road was plowed and displays the plows’ locations when they’re in motion clearing roads.
“The Snowplow Tracker is an opportunity to see our snow clearing efforts in a new, visual way,” said Bill Linnen, Director, Public Works. “Our crews work continuously during winter weather events to clear over 1,800 km of roads. The Snowplow Tracker allows you to see that progress across the city.”
The order in which roads are plowed is based on a priority system, which is dependent on the current winter weather event. Main roads are cleared first with arterial roadways and transit routes possibly receiving multiple passes before the plows move on to residential areas.
