Every dollar raised makes a difference in our community

United Way kicked off its annual fall fundraising campaign by unveiling the fundraising goal as more than 500 enthusiastic supporters and volunteers packed the ballroom at the Ambassador Conference Resort. 2014 Campaign Chair Carrie Batt announced that this year the campaign target is $3,481,000, a 2% increase over last year’s goal.

“It was an easy decision for me to serve as Campaign Chair this year. This is our United Way. Everyone in KFL&A has the opportunity to impact the United Way’s ability to meet the needs of our community members. United Way appeals to me because of its accountability, efficiency and commitment to addressing the root causes behind social issues,” says Batt. “Additionally, we all have personal reasons to support our local United Way. I would encourage all canvassers and volunteers to consider sharing their stories with coworkers when asking them for their support. When you hear from someone whose life has been changed, it makes a big difference.”

“I would like to thank all our volunteers,” continues Batt. “Every day you are making a difference in your community. We are very fortunate to live in a caring community, with a strong United Way.”

The campaign will focus on telling the United Way story and attracting additional donors. “I continue to be inspired by the way people from across the community come together in common purpose, raising funds and finding resources to support local needs each year,” says United Way CEO Bhavana Varma.

Approximately 400 KFL&A work sites will run United Way campaigns over the next 11 weeks, with the help of more than 2,500 volunteers.

The United Way of KFL&A takes great pride in stewardship of both donor trust and donor dollars. For the year ending 2013, 85% of funds received were invested in programs while 15% went towards fundraising and related administrative costs.
