St. George’s Cathedral Begins New Choir Season

All three church choirs of St. George’s Cathedral – children’s, teen, and adult – begin a new season on Friday September 11, 2015.

Adult Choir of St. George’s Cathedral begins their new on September 11 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. A number of short-term seasonal choirs are being offered for occasional singers, as well as Choral Scholarships for students.

The Children’s Choir will begins a new term that same day from 4:15 pm to 5:15 pm. The choir welcomes boys and girls aged 7 to 13 to sing together. They rehearse Fridays after school, and sing monthly on Sundays. There is no membership fee. As well as singing together, the choir enjoys an occasional pizza party and other special events.

The new Teen Choir of St. George’s Cathedral begins its very first season on September 11 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. The choir welcomes singers and instrumentalists aged 13 to 18. They rehearse Fridays in the early evening, and sing twice a month on Sundays. There is no membership fee.

Alana Sargeant, a graduate of Queen’s University, has had extensive experience working with young voices through her involvement with the
Cantabile Choirs of Kingston and as the conductor of the Queen’s Chorus. She is in demand as a liturgical vocalist, pianist, and guitarist. In the summer of 2013 she travelled to Ghana to study West African Music and Dance.
