RELEASE — The RMC Paladins welcomed the reigning OUA bronze medalists to Constantine Arena on Thursday night to open the regular season, upsetting the No. 6 Concordia Stingers 2-1 in regulation.

Cameron Lamport (Newmarket, Ont.) opened the scoring on the Paladins power play, while Rhett Willcox (Surrey, B.C.) and David Savery (Angus, Ont.) collected assists on RMC’s first goal of the 2018-19 season. Still in the first period, rookie Alex MacDonald (Windsor Junction, N.S.) scored the first goal of his U SPORTS career in his first appearance, with Savery adding his second point of the game with an assist on another power play marker.

After Concordia’s Hugo Roy halved the Paladins lead in the second, RMC rookie goaltender Brad Van Schubert (Barrie, Ont.) stole the show in the third, stopping 36 shots overall, including all 21 he faced in the final 20 minutes of play.

As the buzzer sounded, the Paladins earned their first regular season win over Concordia since 2012, when RMC beat the Stingers on consecutive nights in October. Concordia were 6-3 winners when the teams met in a preseason tune-up last weekend in Kingston.

The Paladins return to OUA action after Thanksgiving when they cross the causeway to face the Queen’s Gaels at the Memorial Centre on Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
