CBC Sports, ParticipACTION and True Sport have selected Queen’s and Kingston as the host of this year’s ‘Sports Day In Canada’ event to be held on the 18th of September.
Live broadcast from the Athletics and Recreation Centre will be shown by CBC sports beginning at noon. In addition, a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Queen’s women’s basketball will be aired as the Gaels take on McGill in a free exhibition match starting at 4 pm.
All students, alumni, faculty, staff as well as sports teams and clubs involved have been encouraged to wear their team colors and support the Gaels on nationwide television.
The Queen’s and Kingston community have been invited to watch the events throughout the day and take part in the various activities being organized. Furthermore, the event will also include free membership to the Queen’s Athletic & Recreational Centre (ARC), fitness classes, an open swim, and a youth basketball clinic.
Speaking about the event, principal Daniel Woolf said, “We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting national event. This is a wonderful opportunity for Queen’s and Kingston to showcase our student athletes, our tremendous school spirit, our history, and our state-of-the-art facilities to the nation.”
Athletics & Recreation will also be holding a viewing party to watch the defending Vanier Cup Champions play the Gryphons on “theSCORE” at 1pm.
Varsity teams and club student-athletes from Queen’s will be wearing their jerseys on Friday the 17th of September to promote the Sports Day in Canada event.
Leslie Dal Cin, Director of Athletics & Recreation summed it up by saying, “We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Athletics and Recreation Centre and our outdoor fields to help celebrate Sports Day in Canada.”
