City Seeks Public’s Opinion on Bicycle Sharrows

Published on: 2011/08/02 - in Featured Releases

Now that bicycle sharrows have been added along Johnson and Brock Streets, the City wants to know what road-users think of them in an online  opinion survey at  www.cityofkingston.ca/roadsharing.

The road-painted symbol of a bicycle with chevrons over it is intended to offer cyclists line-of-travel guidance and remind road-users to share the road. The survey asks road-users if they like the use of sharrows as a reminder to share the road and what they think about the placement of the sharrows on Brock and Johnson Streets.

“We want to encourage the use of bicycles and power-assisted bicycles as choice forms of transportation in Kingston. The objective of the sharrows is to make all road users more comfortable with sharing the road along key routes. We want to know if Kingstonians feel the sharrows meet this objective,” says Dan Franco, City Engineer.

The opinion survey will collect feedback on the sharrows until Friday, Sept. 30. The input will help shape the City’s future roadsharing initiatives.
