RELEASE — The City has distributed nasal spray naloxone kits to fourteen City facilities for use by the public in emergency situations. The availability of naloxone at City facilities supports ongoing community efforts to prevent injury and death caused by opioid overdose.

Naloxone is a medication that can temporarily stop an overdose caused by opioid drugs like heroin, morphine, fentanyl, methadone, codeine, and other drugs that are unknowingly contaminated with opioids. Recognizing overdose symptoms, calling 9-1-1, and administering naloxone quickly can prevent injury and death.

Naloxone kits are located in the automated external defibrillators (AED) stations in City facilities and are marked with clearly identifiable signage. Each naloxone kit contains instructions for use, gloves, and two doses of naloxone nasal spray.

Naloxone kits are available to the public in an emergency at the following City facilities:

• Artillery Park Aquatic Centre, 382 Bagot St.
• Belle Park, 731 Montreal St.
• Cataraqui / Kinsman Arena, 1030 Sunnyside Rd.
• Centre 70 Arena, 100 Days Rd.
• City Hall, 216 Ontario St.
