Mental Health Commission at Queen's UniversityThe Principal’s Commission on Mental Health at Queen’s has launched a website designed to keep the community informed about its activities and encourage participation across the campus.

“We’ve had our first few meetings to discuss our approach and we are now reaching out to those groups and individuals – students, faculty, staff and external experts – who have views, opinions and constructive suggestions,” says commission chair David Walker.

“We’ll be in listening mode for the first several weeks,” says commission member Lynann Clapham. “Then we’ll be setting up bigger meetings and forums so we can have broader-based discussions with students, faculty and staff that will build on what we’ve heard from people on the front-lines.”

The website includes the commission’s terms of reference and summaries of its meetings. The commission is also compiling links to key documents and materials from other institutions and groups who have studied student mental health.

“The website will grow as we move forward,” says Dr. Clapham. “We are all very enthusiastic about getting input from as many people as we can. We really see this initiative as an opportunity to enhance what is currently done on campus and make a significant impact on promoting health and wellness.”

The commission will make recommendations to Principal Daniel Woolf next spring.
