Limestone City Blues Festival Headliners Announced

Published on: 2011/05/04 - in Releases

The Limestone City Blues Festival will once again bring Downtown Kingston alive with the sounds of the blues August 25, 26, 27 and 28, 2011.

Celebrating its 15th year, the festival is delighted to announce that the guitarist Walter Trout will headline the Springer Market Square stage Saturday night the 27th! Although he lives in California, Walter Trout spends much of his life on the road bridging the U.S and Europe, where he’s so well‐known and respected that the United Kingdom’s BBC Radio One placed the Stratocaster master at number six on their list of the Top 20 guitarists of all time. In 1981 Trout joined the remaining members of the formative ’60s blues‐rock group Canned Heat. But the real turning point in his career was his five‐year tenure with British blues giant John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers.

His solo career began in 1989 and he was immediately embraced by European audiences and released his first album, Life in the Jungle that same year. Despite his prolific recording schedule, Trout’s first U.S. release was 1998’s critically heralded Walter Trout, which immediately established him as a staple of the American blues scene as well. His latest album, Common Ground, was released in 2010 to great acclaim. www.waltertrout.com

Opening for Mr. Trout will be the 2008 International Blues Challenge winners, Trampled Under Foot – three siblings from Kansas City, Missouri. www.tufkc.com

Grady Champion will headline the Princess Street (at Barrie) stage, Friday August 26th. Grady Champion is a young blues singer and harmonica player who has been compared to Sonny Boy Williamson and always puts on an electrifying performance. He is the 2010 International Blues Challenge winner, and also received the Jackson Music Award for Local Blues Artist of the Year 2010. Opening for Mr Champion will be Jack de Keyzer and his trio. www.jackdekeyzer.com

Once again, Limestone City Blues Festival promises to be a ‘not to be missed’ presentation of blues greatness! The heat will be turned up this year as we present more than a dozen participating venues with more than 50 shows (over 100 hours of programming) ‐ three afternoons of concerts in Confederation Park, live blues nightly in many downtown clubs, restaurants and cafes as well as brunch Blues.

Get your $10 admission bracelet from participating venues for all four days of the festival ‐ to the clubs, park, and the concerts on Princess Street and in Springer Market Square ‐ and, with your bracelet, your free blues bucks to redeem at many downtown merchants! Bracelets will be on sale by late June. (Check the website for bracelet sales locations).
