RELEASE — Alison Wheeler of Whitby and Robin Wheeler of Yarker were struck by the LIGHTNING LOTTO jackpot on February 13, 2021. The top prize, which started at $125,000, had grown to $188,623.50 before it was won! The pair also won $2 on another one of their LIGHTNING LOTTO selections, bringing their total winnings to $188,625.50.

Sisters, Alison and Robin said they have been playing the lottery together since LIGHTNING LOTTO came out. “Deal of the century – $2 ticket with a progressive jackpot!” they shared.

The duo said it was late in the afternoon when they purchased their LIGHTNING LOTTO play. “The guy at the store told me I won something and that OLG was going to call me,” Alison shared. “I was stunned – he was too!”

Alison called her sister immediately to tell her about their big win. “She didn’t believe me,” she laughed. “I had to send her a photo for proof!”

Alison says she will put most of her win towards retirement. “I’ve also put some money aside for a trip when it’s safe to travel again,” she concluded.

The winning ticket was purchased at Esso on Consumers Drive in Whitby.

These winners participated in a virtual prize claim process as OLG is limiting the number of in-person prize claim appointments to only those that require a face-to-face interview. As these winners are at home, they are not required to wear a mask in the photo they provide. Winners that attend the Prize Centre are required to wear a mask, which is why winner photos may differ.
