City Releases Plans for Possible Postal Disruption

Below is a plan for how residents can make payments and communicate with the City of Kingston during any postal disruption. The City will be monitoring the postal situation closely and will issue updates as appropriate.

Of particular concern is the delivery of payments to Ontario Works recipients. Detailed instructions for communicating with Community and Family Services during the postal disruption are available at the bottom of this list.

PAY ONLINE AT www.cityofkingston.ca/pay:
Online payments for these items may be submitted online at www.cityofkingston.ca/pay:
– pet tag renewals
– parking tickets
– parking permit renewals
– recreation programs
– Provincial Offence fines

PAYING YOUR UTILITY KINGSTON BILLS:
Utilities Kingston customers are reminded that they are responsible for paying their balances by the due date, regardless of any postal disruption.

Please do not mail your payments, but use one of the following payment options:

– In person: 216 Ontario St. between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
– Where you bank: by teller (service charge may apply and your bank may require your Utilities Kingston payment stub), Automated Banking Machine, telephone or online.
– After hours: 24 hour drop box at 1211 John Counter Blvd.

– Sign up for Epost: Utilities Kingston customers are encouraged to sign up with Epost to receive their bills online at https://www.epost.ca/edms/en/sign_in.shtml
– For information on your Utilities Kingston account, call (613) 546-0000 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Customer Service Representatives can tell you how much you owe on your bill and can email your bill directly to you during the postal disruption.

SUBMITTING YOUR TENDER DOCUMENTS:
– In person: at the City Clerk’s Department, City Hall, 216 Ontario St. Ensure your documents are delivered by the specified date and time.
Paying your parking ticket:
– Online: www.cityofkingston.ca/pay
– Drop Box: outside City Hall at 216 Ontario St. (cheques only, please).
– In person: City Hall, 216 Ontario St. Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
– By telephone: (613) 546-0000, using VISA or MasterCard, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Paying your Provincial Offences fine:
– Online: www.cityofkingston.ca/pay
Provincial Offences fines for speeding tickets, bylaw infractions or other offences (excluding parking tickets) can also be paid in person at the Provincial Offences Court, 279 Wellington St. 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, or at any other Provincial Offences Court Administration Offices in the Province.

DOING BUSINESS WITH THE CITY:
The City has set up an Accounts Payable hotline at 613-546-4291, ext. 2204.

APPLYING FOR JOBS WITH THE CITY:
To be considered, applicants can submit their cover letter and resume:

– In person: British Whig Building, 310 King St. East from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Ensure to apply by the closing date, quoting the job title and file number.

NOTIFICAITON OF DEVELOPMENT APPLICATIONS
The public can look for notifications of development applications – normally mailed to residents – in the City page ads: Tuesdays in the Kingston Whig-Standard and Thursdays in Kingston This Week and EMC newspapers.

COMMUNICATION WITH COMMUNITY AND FAMILY SERVICES:
To ensure continued Community and Family Services program delivery for participants in Kingston and South Frontenac, all correspondence to Community Services, including income statements and other documents for both Ontario Works and Children’s Services, must be delivered to the main Community and Family Services office at 362 Montreal St. Drop in hours will be extended on June 1 and 2 to run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate clients.

Clients can also make use of the 24 hour drop box located near the first floor entrance.
Residents of North and Central Frontenac Townships are asked to leave their documents with their case manager at the North Frontenac Community Services office in Sharbot Lake, Ontario.
Due to processing timelines, Community Services documentation may not be dropped off at other locations. For more information, call (613) 546-2695.

ONTARIO WORKS CHEQUES AND DIRECT BANK DEPOSIT STATEMENTS MUST BE PICKED-UP DURING THE POSTAL DISRUPTION:
Monthly Ontario Works benefits WILL NOT be mailed during a postal disruption and the following pick-up processes will be put into place to ensure clients receive their benefits on time.

City of Kingston, South Frontenac and the Islands recipients:

Direct Bank Deposit Statements may be picked up at the Ontario Works Office, 362 Montreal St., beginning on May 31during from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Statements will also be available for pick-up on June 1 and 2 from 11a.m. to 7 p.m. Recipients must show a piece of identification when picking up the statement and it must match the name on the statement.

Cheques will be available for pick-up at the Ontario Works Office located at 362 Montreal St., on June 1 and 2 from 11a.m. until 7 p.m. Recipients must show a piece of identification when picking up the cheque and it must match the name on the cheque.

After June 2 cheques and direct deposit statements will be available for pick-up between 2 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.

Central and North Frontenac recipients:

Cheques and Direct Deposit Statements will be available for pick-up at the Sharbot Lake Office on June 1 from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Recipients must show a piece of identification when picking up the cheque or statement and it must match the name on the cheque or statement.

After June 1, cheques and direct deposit statements will only be available to be picked-up at the Ontario Works Office at 362 Montreal St., from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 2 and, after June 2, between 2 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.

DRUG CARDS

Drug cards will be issued for June, however, if individuals are unable to pick them up, drug cards that were valid for May will continue to be valid until the end of the postal disruption.
