Kingston Celebrates National Youth Week

Youth Orientated Events And Programs Available All Week

The City along with its community partners will host a variety of events and programs aimed at young people aged 13-24 for National Youth Week (NYW). NYW is celebrated every year from May 1 to 7.

A full list of events and schedules for National Youth Week is available at www.Cityofkingston.ca/youthweek and include, amongst other activities: an youth art exhibition at The Artel, 205 Sydenham St.; a videography workshop at The Modern Fuel Gallery 21A Queen St., Gotta Get that Job (and other events); at the Wally Elmer Neighbourhood Centre, 50 MacCauley St.; a theatre workshop at the Cataraqui Centre, 945 Gardiners Rd; and a Kid Koala Concert at the Boys & Girls Club, 559 Bagot St.

The week’s events are highlighted by a special screening of “Footloose” – the 2011 remake of the original cult film – in Springer Market Square on Saturday, May 5 at 8 p.m. Get up and dance with the crowd at the end of the movie (see www.Cityofkingston.ca/youthweek for a link to the moves!). Plus, watch as the Urban Dance Project and KinetiQ Crew dazzle you with their moves before the movie starts at sun down.

The week is dedicated to the celebration of youth and their active participation in our community. Whether it is recreation, drama, sport, dance, civic engagement, art, volunteerism or leadership, every day young people are involved in meaningful activities during their discretionary time. NYW is a time to honour their involvement.
