Kingston Fire & Rescue’s Combat Challenge Team is holding a car wash to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life and the Combat Team at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Kingston Centre Parking Lot, at the corner of Bath Road and Sir John A. MacDonald Boulevard.

Billed as “The Toughest Two Minutes in Sports,” the Scott Firefighters Combat Challenge Firefit obstacle course tests the strength, speed and agility of firefighters who are required to complete a series of fire-fighting-related tasks in full gear.

This year Kingston Fire & Rescue’s team will be competing in a number of Firefit competitions, including:

- Saturday, July 2 at the Thames Centre off the 401 near the eastern edge of London, Ontario
- Saturday, Aug. 6 and Sunday, Aug. 7 in Ottawa, Ont.
- Assuming they qualify, they will also compete at the Canadian Nationals in Medicine Hat, Alberta September 15 to 18.

There are quite a few familiar names among those firefighters competing for Kingston, including: veterans Tom Meers, Ralph Crouse, Shawn Babcock, Don Newton, Michael Frasso, Jamie Neadow, Justin Clarke, Roger Belzile and second year Derek Beattie and Morgan Carey; not to mention John Lawless who finished as the second-fastest volunteer firefighter in Canada last season.
