Kingston Citizens Reminded to be on Voters’ List
KINGSTON, ONT. / Sept. 1, 2010 – The City is asking citizens to ensure their names are on the Voters’ List in preparation for the municipal election on Monday, Oct. 25.
From Tuesday, Sept. 7 to Thursday, Oct. 7, the Voters’ List of all Electors of the City of Kingston will be available for inspection at:
MUNICIPAL OFFICES (between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.)
-Â The Election Office, City Hall, 216 Ontario St.
-Â Municipal Office, 1211 John Counter Blvd.
-Â The INVISTA Centre, 1350 Gardiners Rd.
KINGSTON FRONTENAC PUBLIC LIBRARY BRANCHES (during regular branch hours)
-Â Central Branch, 130 Johnson St.
-Â Calvin Park Branch, 88 Wright Cres.
-Â Â Kingscourt Branch, 115 Kirkpatrick St.
-Â Â Pittsburgh Branch, 80 Gore Rd.
-Â Â Isabel Turner Branch, 935 Gardiners Rd.
“We encourage everyone to check the list, especially if you’ve moved recently, or are new to the city. Checking the Voters’ List and making necessary amendments ahead of the municipal election avoids line-ups at the polls and safeguards your right to vote,” says John Bolognone, Assistant Returning Officer.
Electors are invited to review the Voters’ List to ensure that their name and proper address are included. If a citizen’s name needs to be added, amended or deleted from the list, he or she may fill out an Application to Amend the Voters’ List (Form 032), also available at the above locations. The Application must be filled out and returned to the Election Office at City Hall by October 7 so that correct information appears on the Voters’ List prior to Voting Day.
From October 8 to October 25, citizens can fill out the Application at the Election Office at City Hall and will receive a Clerk’s Certificate to be presented to the Deputy Returning Officer at the voting poll on Election Day.
In order to vote in the 2010 municipal election, electors are required to bring proper identification. A link to the list of acceptable identification in the Municipal Elections Act can be found on the “Questions & Answers for Voters” site at www.cityofkingtston.ca/election. Anyone not on the Voters’ List can still be added at the poll on any Advance Voting Day or on October 25, providing the citizen has proper identification.
