Residents who coordinate their fall yard work around the City’s brush and leaf collection will find the schedule in the Your City: Working for you supplement being delivered to homes this Friday.

UPDATE – for 2018 brush and leaf collection click here.

Residents can also find personalized yard waste collection schedule online.

BRUSH COLLECTION

Brush collection begins rolling out across the city starting on October 4.  Residents are reminded to have brush piled loosely at curbside by 8 a.m. on the Monday of their designated brush collection week.  Stack brush – pruned bits of bushes and trees smaller than 15 cm (six inches) in diameter and shorter than 90 cm (three feet) long – with the butt ends facing the street.  Brush will not be collected during leaf collection weeks.

LEAF COLLECTION

Leaf collection starts on Nov. 8. Leaves must also be left at curbside by 8 a.m. on the Monday of a leaf collection week. Only leaves in paper (KRAFT) leaf bags, or placed loosely in bushel baskets, garbage cans or other rigid-sided receptacle will be picked up. Yard waste like tomato plants, and vegetable garden waste (but not brush) can be put out for pick-up during leaf collection week.

Leaves in plastic bags will not be picked up by the City.  Plastic bags cannot be composted.

COMPOST YOUR YARD WASTE

In addition to the brush and leaf collection schedule, the Your City supplement offers natural gardening tips for fall encouraging you to use your yard waste to feed your garden.  Leaves can be used as mulch and grass clippings may be left on the lawn to feed it over the coming months. Or consider composting your yard waste – details online (you can buy a backyard composter at KARC).

Yard waste can be dropped off any time of year at the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC) at 196 Lappan’s Lane open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or at Norterra Organics at 2069 Joyceville Rd., open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
