HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT PROGRESS & ACTIVITIES

Business Development

KEDCO is hosting a Lunch and Learn Session on November 22 with local companies who are interested in learning more about Customs and Immigrations rules and procedures relating to international air traffic into the Kingston Airport.  The session takes place from 12pm – 1:30pm at The Ambassador Conference Resort Centre and features guest speaker Mark Pergunas, Chief of Operations, Canada Border Services Agency. Pergunas will cover private and corporate flights and speak about the CANPASS and NEXUS border permit systems. Those interested in attending must register with Paula Drouin, Executive Assistant at drouin@kingstoncanada.com by Tuesday, November 16th.

Tourism Kingston

Rob Carnegie, Director of Tourism Marketing & Development and John Paul Shearer, Director of Business Development attended an Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership (OTMP) Educational Session on November 4 which focused on Market/Product Development.  The afternoon event provided an opportunity to learn about new sector development and attraction strategies and enhancing market awareness.

Family Physician RecruitmentDr. Liz Grier is rostering patients for her new clinic at 309 Alfred Street from November 8 – 20.  Residents without a family physician are encouraged to visit Dr. Grier’s clinic anytime between 12pm – 6pm, Monday to Saturday, to secure a family physician.  Dr. Grier’s practice is wheelchair accessible.

Corporate

The KEDCO Board of Directors elected Derek Winton as Chairman of the Board at their meeting on November 8. Derek Winton is the former General Manager of Bombardier and brings over 40 years experience working in industry both nationally and internationally.  He joined the KEDCO Board of Directors as a Member-at-Large in 2007 and became Vice-Chair in 2009.  Winton’s term will begin in January, 2011.
