HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT PROGRESS & ACTIVITIES

Business Development

KEDCO is pleased to be a supporting partner with GreenCentre Canada to present the Sustainable Chemistry Summit to take place in Kingston from September 16-18.  Over 200 Canadian and international sustainable chemistry innovators will gather for a unique forum for bridging the commercialization gap between sustainable chemistry researchers, government officials, and industry professionals.

KEDCO bid farewell this week to summer students Victor Li, Youth Business Consultant and Jennifer Orsatti, Marketing & Communications Assistant.  Li has been working with The Entrepreneurship Centre at KEDCO for the past two years overseeing Kingston’s Summer Company and youth programs.  Li is returning to second year studies in Commerce at Queen’s University and Orsatti to second year Advertising at St. Lawrence College.

Tourism Kingston

MPP John Gerretsen announced that the Local Foods Local Chefs initiative overseen by Downtown Kingston! BIA and Tourism Kingston was the successful recipient of a $100,000 grant from the Ontario Market Investment Fund.  The funding will support enhanced marketing campaigns, programs to further encourage local restaurants and chefs to buy locally and support enhancement of the Kingston Public Market.  For more information on the Local Food Local Chefs program, please visit www.kingstonfood.ca .

Corporate

The KEDCO offices at 945 Princess Street will be closed on Monday, September 5 for Labour Day.  Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, September 6.  The Visitor Information Centre at 209 Ontario Street will remain open on Labour Day Monday from 9:30am – 8pm.

The next meeting of the KEDCO Board of Directors will take place on Monday, September 12 at 5pm in the Innovation Park boardroom.  The agenda includes review of proposed Strategic Planning Working Committee and review of terms of service for the KEDCO Board of Directors.
