HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT PROGRESS & ACTIVITIES

Business Development

John-Paul Shearer, Director of Business Development and Christa Wallbridge, Project Manager – Business Development attended the 1st Annual Sustainable Energy Symposium at St. Lawrence College on March 8. The symposium was aimed at engaging the Sustainable Energy Industry in the development of innovative technology solutions and knowledge transfer for regional economic enhancement.

The event reaffirmed the critical importance of integrated alternative energy as a source to meet future energy demands and also the key role that ongoing research at St. Lawrence College and Queen’s University will play in green technology developments.

The Entrepreneurship Centre at KEDCO and the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce hosted an International Women’s Day event on March 8 at the Days Inn and Conference Centre. Over 130 successful businesswomen attended the event which was themed “Connecting Women, Celebrating Success.” The event was opened by Councilor Sandy Berg and featured four innovative speakers and a networking session.

On March 24-25, Elizabeth Allen, Project Manager – Labour Market Development will participate in the Queen’s School of Medicine Admissions weekend. Students from across Canada will be coming to Kingston over these two weekends for admissions interviews. Allen also attended the first weekend of admissions interviews on March 3 – 4. This is the second year that KEDCO has participated in this event to promote Kingston as a great city to live and work and in effort to retain students and graduates following their years of study.

Tourism Kingston

KEDCO and Tourism Kingston would like to welcome Jacqueline Bell to the position of Sport Tourism Manager. In

her new role, Bell will help the local community of sport, tourism and business organizations by working to establish Kingston as a sport tourism and recreation destination of choice. Bell will serve as a catalyst and support for the ongoing creation, promotion and delivery of rewarding sport and recreational experiences in Kingston. Bell has been with Tourism Kingston since 2008 in the position of Marketing Assistant and Partnership Services.
