HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT PROGRESS & ACTIVITIES

Business Development

Christa Wallbridge, Project Manager – Business Development attended the SWITCH Green Profit Conference on March 18 and 19 at the Four Points by Sheraton in Kingston. The conference featured topics including sustainable energy innovations, best practices and how they can be applied to businesses, municipalities, home, and community.

On Tuesday, March 27, Jeff Garrah, CEO and John-Paul Shearer, Director of Business Development will travel with City of Kingston Mayor Mark Gerretsen, Holly Wilson, Manager of Intergovernmental Relations and Jim Keech, CEO of Utilities Kingston to attend the release of the Provincial Budget in Toronto.

Tourism Kingston

Tourism Kingston is working with Kingston’s Physi-Kult Track Club to host a new track race series at the new Outdoor Athletic Park next to the INVISTA Centre in Kingston. The first 410 Track Series will be hosted on June 6, 2012 and will include a three event format including an 800 meter race; a one mile race; and 3,000 meter race.

The Series will invite some of Canada’s top athletes, including past Olympians who will compete to break the 4 minute mile (which has never been done in Kingston). Tourism Kingston is a proud sponsor and regularly works with local sport organizations on the development of events for Kingston’s state-of-the-art facilities.

Connie Markle, Manger of Conference and Travel Trade and Chris Whyman, Visitor Services Manager will be in San Francisco, California on April 2 – 4 to attend the Canada Media Marketplace 2012 exhibition.

Canada Media Marketplace, presented by the Canadian Tourism Commission is aimed at achieving the maximum positive media coverage for Canada in the United States. Markle and Whyman will generate media exposure for Kingston and build relationships with a total of 38 booked interviews with print media personnel such as journalists and freelance writers to encourage them to visit and promote Kingston.

Corporate

KEDCO and the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce are currently planning the 2012 Business Hall of Fame Awards. Nominees will be inducted at the Awards Breakfast on Tuesday, June 5 at 7:15 am at the Kingston Banquet and Conference Centre, 33 Benson Street.  This year’s nominees are: Tom Wroe (Visionary); the Bradfield Family (Visionary); Peter Kraus (Mentor); Mark McKercher (Mentor); Gini Rosen (Enabler); and the Corcoran Family (Community Builders).
