HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT PROGRESS & ACTIVITIES

Business Development

The Kingston Technology Council (KTC) will host an evening with Jeremy Rifkin, sought-after advisor, lecturer and author. Mr. Rifkin is the author of 17 best-selling books and architect of the European Union’s Long-Term Economic Sustainability Plan to address global economic crisis, energy security and climate change.

The KTC is hosting this public lecture to discuss the impact of scientific and technological changes on the economy, the workforce, society and the environment. The lecture will feature his vision on how smart technologies and global communication networks should come together to reconfigure power grids, and decentralize energy use.

The event takes place September 29, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at The Grand Theatre, 218 Princess Street. Tickets are available online at kingstongrand.ca or at the box office.

Elizabeth Allen, Labour Market Development Project Manager has been appointed as a Director at Large to the 1000 Islands Region Workforce Development Board of Directors. Allen’s term is effective immediately through March 31, 2013. The 1000 Islands Region Workforce Development Board utilizes the Trends, Opportunities and Priorities (TOP) Process to identify and prioritize local labour market issues. Once labour market issues are identified, the Board works with community partners developing strategic plans for the region with the goal to meet the changing labour market needs of the community.

Tourism Kingston

Tourism Kingston is hosting a Meetings & Conferences Familiarization (FAM) Tour on August 17 – 18. The FAM Tour will showcase the city to qualified event planners who have confirmed interest Kingston as a conference destination of choice. Connie Markle, Conferences & Travel Trade Manager will be touring delegates through the city and discussing support services which Tourism Kingston provides for conference and event planners.

Perspectives Eduscho Limited, a Canadian educational tour company will be visiting Kingston with ten of their top sales people on August 23 – 24. During their visit, the group will tour various museums, galleries and educational institutions to discover potential programming opportunities available for their student groups and the life-long learner market.
