HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT PROGRESS & ACTIVITIES

Business Development

KEDCO hosted the St. Lawrence College Business Development Team on April 7 for a group discussion of each organization’s respective strategic plans and initiatives.  The meeting allowed both groups to gain a better understanding of potential service linkages which could support new and existing businesses.  Charlie Mignault, Director of Business Development at the College reviewed work being undertaken in Institutional Research & Partnerships; Government Programs; Leadership Development Programs; and, Career Development and Employment Services.

The Ambassador of Peru, His Excellency Jose Antonio Bellina, along with Counsellor Claudia Betalleluz, will be in Kingston on April 26 to meet with the KEDCO Business Development Team. The Ambassador will also be meeting with local companies who are interested in pursuing and developing international business relationships with Peru.

Work is underway on the third annual Perspective Kingston, with an anticipated publication date of the week of April 25.  The special section will be a 32-page tabloid with a focus primarily on promoting the key growth clusters within the region, as well as highlight accomplishments by some of Kingston’s unique individuals and companies.  Perspective Kingston has a reach of over 300,000 readers through targeted distribution in The Globe and Mail, Canada Post, and trade shows and attraction activities.

Tourism Kingston

Rob Carnegie, Director of Tourism Marketing & Development and Connie Markle, Conferences & Travel Trade Manager attended the Canadian Tourism Commission’s Media Marketplace held in New York City from April 4-6.

Media Marketplace brings together Canadian media directors and representatives from a broad cross section of the Canadian tourism industry with U. S. media. Media guests represent travel and lifestyle journalists from print, electronic, and on-line consumer and travel publications. The purpose is to exchange the latest Canadian tourism information in a structured, professional setting consisting of scheduled, one-on-one appointments and related hospitality events. During the course of the three-day gathering, Tourism Kingston secured 31 one-on-one appointments with U.S. media journalists.

Corporate

KEDCO’s Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 25 at 5pm in The Harbour Restaurant at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour.  The agenda includes approval of the 2010 audited financial statements and elections for executive positions within the Board.
