HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT PROGRESS & ACTIVITIES

Business Development

Jan Dines, Business Development Officer attended the Ontario Municipal Agriculture Economic Development Forum on October 30-31 in Simcoe.

The forum, themed “Collaborating to Succeed” brought municipal and local economic development officers that have agriculture and food in their portfolio to network, share successes and learn more about programs targeted to the agricultural sector.

This forum will be followed by the Eastern Ontario Local Food Conference which will be held in Kingston on December 2-3.

The conference, presented by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the Ministry of Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), will feature a local food tour as well as presentations on experiences in innovative local food processing, understanding the province’s local food strategy and funding programs, and food inspection considerations when operating a local food business.

Tourism

On October 29, Rob Carnegie, Director of Tourism Marketing and Development met with the Tett Centre Community Engagement Committee to discuss Arts Tourism and how the new Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning coupled with new cultural offerings will attract cultural tourists.

Further to new leisure and cultural opportunities, the Tett Centre will offer meeting space that will be marketed to meeting planners by Tourism Kingston staff.

The Tett Centre, which is currently under construction, is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2014 and will offer programs to the arts community and visitors. For more information on the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning please visit tettcentre.org.

Tourism Kingston will host their 2014 Partnership Launch on Thursday, November 21 from 3:00pm – 5:00 pm at the Delta Kingston Waterfront Hotel located at 1 Johnson Street.
