HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT PROGRESS & ACTIVITIES

Business Development

On June 25-28 Jan Dines, Business Development Officer will attend SIAL Brazil: The Latin American Food Marketplace hosted by the Salon International de l’Alimentation (SIAL) Group. SIAL Brazil is expected to have over 500 exhibiting brands and over 15,000 professional visitors. Dines will market Kingston as a competitive place to invest as part of KEDCO’s focus on the attraction of food processing and manufacturing businesses.

On June 30-July 2, CEO Jeff Garrah and Business Development Officer Jan Dines will attend the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City presented by the Specialty Food Association. More the 2,400 exhibitors representing the world’s finest food and beverage companies from over 80 countries are anticipated to be in attendance. Garrah and Dines will be recruiting leads and promoting the advantages of doing business in Kingston. The food processing and manufacturing sector is priority sector for KEDCO’s business attraction activities in 2013.

KEDCO is working with Holly Wilson, Manager of Intergovernmental Relations with the City of Kingston on organizing the second annual “Kingston Day” at Queen’s Park in Toronto for later this year. This event increases the profile of Kingston with Members of the Provincial Parliament through a showcase of local businesses, educational institutions, tourism partners and local food to the MPP’s in the Ontario Legislature.

Tourism

Connie Markle, Manager of Conferences and Travel Trade hosted a familiarization (FAM) tour in Kingston for ten international travel bloggers on June 3-4. The bloggers, representing USA and Spain, visited local Kingston attractions after attending the TBEX Conference for travel writers and bloggers in Toronto on May 31- June 2.

On May 30, Connie Markle, Manager of Conferences and Travel Trade and Chris Whyman, Visitor Services Manager attended the annual Destination Days leisure show hosted by VIA Rail in Toronto. Markle and Whyman distributed Kingston Visitor Guides and met with potential visitors during the show.

Tourism Kingston has organized a full roster of events for Tourism Awareness Week, which will take place from June 10-16. The events will include 2-for-1 trolley rides for Kingston residents, a Kingston familiarization tour for front line tourism staff and a special museum passport program. The official launch is on Monday, June 10 at 10:30am in front of the Visitor Information Centre at 209 Ontario Street with local tourism partners and businesses showcasing their products, services and attractions.

INVISTA Centre Ice Pad Sponsorship Opportunities

The Kingston Multiplex Facility is a showplace for recreation and leisure attracting more than 880,000 visitors per year. The City of Kingston has entered in to the RFP process to invite corporate friends to bid on this marketing opportunity at the INVISTA Centre Ice Pads.  For more information click here.

2013 Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Awards

The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for Kingston’s 2013 Business Achievement Awards.

Nominations must be received at the Chamber Office by Friday, August 30, 2013 at noon. The 18th Annual Business Achievement Awards will be announced at the Chamber of Commerce Chair’s Gala on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Kingston Banquet and Conference Centre at Days Inn, 33 Benson Street.
