RELEASE — Division Street will be closed from Barbara to Railway from 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 to 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14 to accommodate work related to the construction of the City’s new fleet maintenance garage .

“We will be working day and night over the weekend to minimize traffic disruption as much as possible. This is part of the site-servicing work we are completing for the new City garage which is being constructed to meet LEED Silver standards at minimum,” says Sheila Kidd, deputy commissioner operations, transportation and infrastructure services.

Facilities are certified LEED Silver when they are constructed to meet defined environmentally-friendly and energy-saving standards. This facility, which will eventually replace the City’s 70-year-old fleet maintenance garage, will include solar panels on the roof, in-floor radiant heating and energy-efficient building systems.

The new 4,000 m2 fleet maintenance garage at 701 Division St. will also have:

  • 10 regular and two drive-through truck bays
  • five car bays
  • wash bay
  • a parts room
  • a welding area
  • staff facilities
  • administrative offices
  • a bridge crane
  • in-floor radiant heating
  • a fluid management system
  • portable hoists

The facility is expected to be completed in summer of 2020. For more, see: CityofKingston.ca/Projects.
