CRCA: Flood Outlook Extended for Millhaven Creek

Published on: 2019/02/27 - in Releases

CRCA logoRELEASE — The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (CRCA) has extended the current Flood Outlook Statement for Millhaven Creek.

Existing ice jams along Millhaven Creek and recent rainfall has caused water levels to increase in some areas. Specific areas of concern include a stretch of the creek in Odessa that parallels Gore Street upstream (north) of Babcock Mill, and the Lucas Road bridge area further downstream.

Water levels may increase further in localized areas, but current weather forecasts suggest that this situation should stabilize over the next few days.

Widespread flooding is NOT expected at this time. However, if you witness flooding and/or require assistance your first point of contact is the local municipality (i.e. Loyalist Township).

Loyalist Township and CRCA staff are monitoring the situation.

Sandbags and sand will be available at the Loyalist Township sand dome at 748 County Road 6, should residents require them.

CRCA staff is urging residents to stay away from fast-flowing watercourses, as well as any dams and outflow channels and to exercise caution around lakes, creeks and stay off the ice.

CRCA staff will continue to monitor conditions and forecasts and will update statements as needed. This Watershed Conditions Statement will remain in effect until Wednesday, March 13, 2019.
