Two Arrests Made in Separate Commercial Break and Enters

Kingston Police made two arrests in two separate commercial break and enters overnight.

In the first instance, shortly after 11:00p.m., a security company, monitoring the Hydro One property on Sydenham Road, used closed circuit TV surveillance to watch a suspect break into the yard under a fence and begin to remove scrap metal from a bin.

When officers arrived, they contained the property and were able to arrest the suspect without incident. They found that the accused had bagged up approximately sixty pounds of metal from bins on the property.

A 50 year-old Kingston man is charged with break and enter, and possession of stolen property. He was detained in custody pending a Tuesday afternoon bail hearing.

In the second incident, a 38 year old woman was arrested after she was spotted climbing onto the roof of a business in the area of Princess Street and King Street East just after 3:00am. A witness saw the woman forcing entry through the roof of the store, and called police. The suspect then appeared to fall into the store.

When officers arrived, they were unable to gain entry safety to the store, but could hear the suspect inside. The officers laid in wait, as about 40 minutes later, the suspect exited through the roof again, and subsequently fell once again to the ground where she was taken into custody.

The accused was found to be in a heavily intoxicated state, and was held for a bail hearing, where she will be charged with break, enter and commit mischief to property.

The accused was not injured during the course of her crimes, but the store was in a significant state of disarray when the owner arrived to meet police.
