Volunteer tour guides are busy this summer sharing the history of Kingston’s City Hall, a national historic site and highlighting three new exhibits.
Newly added to City’s Hall attractions, the free tours will feature these exciting new exhibits:

Out of the Vault
Treasures from the City’s civic collection Visit the Payment Centre on the first floor of City Hall to explore the connection between a commemorative silverplate wine set, from the City’s archives, and its unique connection to Kingston’s agricultural society. John Wilmot received them from the Agriculture and Arts Association in 1888 in recognition of the successful relocation of the fair from its original site on penitentiary land near Bath and Palace roads to the Crystal Palace exhibition building on York Street.
Kingston’s Poet Laureate
Visit Ontario Hall on the second floor of City Hall to see biographical profiles and poetry samples written by Poets Laureate Eric Folsom, who held the honour from 2011-2014, and current Poet Laureate Helen Humphreys who has held it since 2015.
Mayor’s Arts Awards 2017
Visit the Market Wing Gallery in the basement of City Hall to explore a photographic portrait exhibit showcasing the 2017 recipients of the Mayor’s Arts Awards who represent the diversity of Kingston’s arts sector. Through this program, the City affirms the value of the arts in city life, and nurtures and inspires sustained development of the cultural sector to the benefit of all its citizens.

City Hall also features one of the finest collections of mayoral portraits in North America – 61 paintings dating from the 1840s to 2001. Take a free guided tour with one of more than 40 volunteer tour guides and ambassadors who will share stories about the artifacts, historic figures and portraits housed inside City Hall.
Tours begin in City Hall’s Heritage Resource Centre, 216 Ontario St., and run until early October. Dates and hours of operation for 2018 City Hall tours are:
May 22 through Sept. 1
Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sept. 3 until Oct. 11
Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
