The École secondaire catholique Marie-Rivier band delivered an outstanding performance and took home the best band award at the 15th annual Quand ça nous chante festival held in Sudbury from March 3 to 6. Bassist Benjamin Hueglin also picked up a patron’s dream team award.
The Association des professionnels de la chanson et de la musique (APCM) organizes the festival to showcase new musical talent and give young Franco-Ontarians an opportunity to take part in four exciting days of music and learning. Over 300 students from some 30 francophone high schools across Ontario gathered to perform and participate in enriching workshops by festival patron Stef Paquette and other professional artists.
At the festival, Marie-Rivier band members Rachel Hacault, Noah Thompson, Noa Proulx, Nathan Hacault, Benjamin Hueglin, Anne St-Aubin and Mackenzie Lamontagne treated the audience to a 20-minute set of original songs.
To prepare for the event, they started practicing in September under the watchful eye of music teacher Norbert Lepage and honed their skills during two weeks of workshops with Franco-Ontarian artists Le Flo and Yao through the CECCE’s artists in residence program.
Their hard work and love of music were on full display during their superb festival performance. Congratulations to all members of the band!
