Public Invited to Meeting for Belle Park Fairways Golf Course Options

The public is invited to attend a meeting to obtain more information on some proposed alternative use for Belle Park Fairways at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 in the Press Lounge of Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, 53 Yonge St.  (map)

As part of its strategic planning process, Council endorsed a property tax increase of 2.5% and directed staff to identify options, including changes in services, to maintain taxes at that level. As part of this process, staff have reviewed options for Belle Park Fairways to meet Council’s objectives and through Council Report 12-322 staff received direction to develop alternative use options for Belle Park can be viewed on the City’s web site at Council Report 12-322 

Four options were submitted to Council and will be presented at the meeting:

  1. Status quo operations (i.e. keep Belle Park Fairways running as a golf course)
  2. Outsource operations of the golf course at Belle Park
  3. Terminate golf course operations at Belle Park and implement a passive park
  4. Terminate golf course operations at Belle Park and implement a passive park with solar panels
