RELEASE — Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) condemns antisemitic graffiti that was discovered this morning at Queen’s University in Kingston.
The graffiti included the phrase “The Goyim Know” – which has been used in antisemitic memes that mockingly claim Jewish people are trying to shut down a Jewish conspiracy discovered by non-Jewish people – as well as the words “USS Liberty,” referring to the US Navy ship that was attacked by the Israeli Air Force and Navy during the Six-Day War. While Israel apologized for the attack and stated it was in error, numerous conspiracy theories targeting Israel and claiming the attack was deliberate have surfaced.
“It’s shocking to see that a phrase most often used by the alt-right and anti-Semites has made its way to a university campus,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “Just like a swastika, this type of graffiti that promotes anti-Jewish and anti-Israel conspiracy theories feeds into hatred toward Jewish people. We urge Queen’s University to investigate the graffiti and take proper action.”
Since learning of the incident, FSWC has reached out to and informed the university.
