Kingston Road Closures & Delays: August 15 to 20

Following is a list of road construction projects and events provided by the City of Kingston that are expected to have an impact on traffic flow next week:

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians: review the listing of streets and related messages below for travel information of interest to you.

  • Between Traffic Reports, check CityofKingston.ca/RoadClosures for updates (please note that no report will be issued on July 2).
  • Significant City or Utilities Kingston-related traffic disruptions will also be sent out on the City’s Twitter feed @CityofKingston.

La Salle Causeway full and lane closures:

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) wishes to advise that, due to repair work, the bridge will:
* Be closed to motorized vehicles: 12 a.m. Aug. 14 to 6 a.m. on Aug. 16. The bridge will remain open to pedestrians and marine traffic will not be affected.
Have a lane closed: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly Aug. 17 to 20.

One lane remains open for alternating traffic. Watch for direction from flagpeople. Motorists should expect short delays. The bridge remains open to pedestrians and marine traffic will not be affected. Direct questions by email here

Closures:

* Colborne Street – Division to Chatham – closed until 7 p.m. Aug. 30 for construction staging.
* Garrett Street – near Division – closed until the end of September for construction staging for development projects on Division and Garrett. Local access is available via University.
* Innovation Drive – Innovation to John Marks – closed until 7 p.m. on Aug. 18 to allow for installation of a storm sewer lateral.

Project, turtle-fencing and water mains.

* Johnson Street – College to Napier – expect lane restrictions through Aug. 27 to allow a contractor to prepare for water and sewer line reconstructions on behalf of Utilities Kingston.
* King St. West – Sand Bay Lane to Country Club Drive – expect significant delays due to east and westbound lane restrictions continuing through 2021. A contractor is installing water and wastewater infrastructure on behalf of Utilities Kingston.
* Kingscourt Avenue – at Kirkpatrick intersection and Ruskin to Brant/Lyon – expect delays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until Aug. 27 to allow for milling and paving of the asphalt and sidewalk reconstruction at the intersection.

* Lakeview Avenue – Windsor to Sinclair – expect a lane closure 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 17 to accommodate installation of a sanitary sewer.
* Montreal Street – southwest corner at Weller – expect a lane closure 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily Aug. 16 to 20 to accommodate replacement of a gas main.
* Parkway – Princess to dead end – expect lane closures until Aug. 30 to accommodate construction of the North End Trunk Sewer by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.
* Princess Street – at Parkway – will be reduced to one lane in each direction Aug. 23 to Sept. 10. Watch for some work to be completed during evening hours.

* Taylor Kidd Boulevard:

  • Princess to Collins Bay Road – expect a lane closure 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. continuing from Aug. 16 to Aug. 20 to accommodate line removal in preparation for microsurfacing.
  • Princess to Waterloo – expect a partial eastbound lane closure through Aug. 13 as a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston completes cleaning and inspections as part of the Trunk Sewer Rehabilitation project.

Sidewalks/Pathways:

* Grenadier Drive – at Windfield Crescent – expect construction around the Kingston East Community Centre site. The sidewalk on the south side of Grenadier Drive may be restricted weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. A flagger will be on-site to direct traffic and assist pedestrians.
* Henderson Boulevard – Bayridge to Days (north side) – expect limited access to the sidewalk through October as crews construct a new multi-use pathway.
* 100 Foot Park pathway – The lower pathway (nearest the waterfront) is now closed as the City readies to repair the lower pedestrian bridge. Signage redirects pedestrians.

* Kingscourt Avenue – at Kirkpatrick intersection and Ruskin to Brant/Lyon – expect sidewalk interruptions until Aug. 27 to allow for sidewalk reconstruction.
* Parkway – northerly to Portsmouth and north end to William Hackett Park – closed until Aug. 31 to accommodate construction of the North End Trunk Sewer by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.
* Portsmouth Waterfront Pathway – to accommodate pathway and shoreline improvements, the City has erected construction fencing to close access to the pathway and waterfront at the foot of Mowat Avenue and Yonge Street and east of Lakewatch Lane. The bridge will be removed at the same time. Construction will continue until fall 2021.
