Kingston Road Closures & Delays: June 13 to 18

Following is a list of road construction projects and events provided by the City of Kingston that are expected to have an impact on traffic flow next week:

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians: review the listing of streets and related messages below for travel information of interest to you.

Check CityofKingston.ca/RoadClosures for traffic. Significant City or Utilities Kingston-related traffic disruptions will also be sent out on the City’s Twitter feed @CityofKingston.

Closures:

* Colborne Street – Division to Chatham – closed until 7 p.m. July 30 for construction staging.
* Garrett Street – near Division – closed until June 30 for construction staging. Local traffic may access Garrett Street from University Avenue.
* George Street – Stuart to O’Kill – closed 7 a.m. June 15 to 7 p.m. June 16 to accommodate exterior work to Botterell Hall.

* Market Street – Ontario to King – closed until Oct. 31 to accommodate Love Kingston Marketplace.
* Napier Street – Brock to Earl – closed June 17 to July 2 to allow for water and sewer reconstruction by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

* Ontario Street – Clarence to Johnson – closed to accommodate Love Kingston Marketplace activities:

  • 4 to 11:59 p.m. June 18
  • 4 to 11:59 p.m. June 19
  • 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 20

* Portsmouth Avenue – Hampstead Heath to Princess and Princess to Howard Cres. – closed to north and southbound traffic. Detour routes will be in place. This closure is to accommodate sewer installation and improvements.

Delays:

* Bayridge West area – Frost, Wembley, Carnaby and Fleet –​​​​​​​ expect daytime lane closures through June 30 while crews rehabilitate the roadway and curbs.
* Brock – Montreal to Sydenham (south side at Hotel Dieu Hospital) – expect a daily lane closure 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 12 to 16 to accommodate elevated platform work.

* Calvin Park, Grenville Park, Hillendale, Polson Park and Strathcona Park – Expect local traffic disruptions and minor detours into the summer as a contractor prepares to line sewer mains on behalf of Utilities Kingston. Please follow signage and yield to oncoming traffic as required.

* Gardiners Road – Princess to Fortune (South) – expect delays due to lane closures 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
* Grenadier Drive – at Windfield Crescent – expect delays to allow construction of the Kingston East Community Centre site. Flaggers will direct traffic.

* Highway 15:

  • At Gore Road – work is scheduled 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Expect minor delays due to lane reductions to accommodate road and active transportation infrastructure improvements. Lane reductions will take place outside of rush hour, if possible. Details: Third Crossing website.
  • Washburn Road to Sunbury Road – expect single-lane reductions until November to accommodate the Rideau Canal Backwater Culvert project.
  • Highway 33 – east of Collins Creek Bridge to west of Coronation Boulevard – expect delays due to construction to improve drainage. Construction barrels and flag-people will direct traffic around the work zone. Ontario highway updates are offered by the Ministry of Transportation.

* Jackson Mills Road – near the K&P Trail – reduced to one lane for roadside safety improvements but remains open in both directions.
* John Counter Boulevard – Princess to Indian – expect delays until the summer of 2021 while crews complete work associated with the road-widening project, turtle-fencing and water mains.

* Johnson Street – College to Napier – expect lane restrictions to allow a contractor to prepare for water and sewer line reconstructions on behalf of Utilities Kingston.
* Portsmouth Avenue – Old Quarry Road to Princess – expect delays until the end of June as a contractor working on behalf of Utilities Kingston installs a new sanitary sewer and upgrades water mains.

* Princess Street:

  • At Portsmouth – Princess will be down to a single lane at Portsmouth in both directions. All turns will be restricted and linear traffic flow through the intersection will be maintained. This lane reduction will accommodate sewer installation and improvements.
  • At Wellington – expect brief lane restrictions through June 18 as Utilities Kingston completes work in an underground vault on the northwest corner.

* St. Remy – Dalton to the end – expect delays to allow a contractor, on behalf of Utilities Kingston, to clean and inspect the sanitary sewer as part of the Trunk Sewer Rehabilitation Project.

* Third Crossing bridge construction impacts: Visit the project’s website to learn more and email thirdcrossing@cityofkingston.ca to connect with the Third Crossing project team.

  • Highway 15 at Gore: expect delays as pieces of the main span of the bridge arrive. Trucks will turn off Highway 401 onto Highway 15 and then onto Gore to reach the bridge site.
  • John Counter and Sir John A. Macdonald boulevards: expect short delays as bridge girders arrive. Trucks, expected in the early afternoon, will turn onto Sir John A. Macdonald from Highway 401 and then east onto John Counter to get to the bridge site. Trucks will have car escorts.

Sidewalks/Pathways:

* Grenadier Drive – at Windfield Crescent – expect construction around the Kingston East Community Centre site. The sidewalk on the south side of Grenadier Drive may be restricted weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. A flagger will be on-site to direct traffic and assist pedestrians.

* 100 Foot Park pathway – The lower pathway (nearest the waterfront) is now closed as the City readies to repair the lower pedestrian bridge. Signage redirects pedestrians.

* Parkway – northerly to Portsmouth and north end to William Hackett Park – closed until Aug. 31 to accommodate construction of the North End Trunk Sewer by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

* Princess Street – At Wellington – until June 18, look for construction fencing and expect pedestrian impacts on the northwest corner as Utilities Kingston works to remove and install equipment in an underground vault.
