It all begins on Friday February 1st with the opening of the Winter Park in Boucher Park – fingers crossed for lots of snow to keep it going all month long! Award-winning ice sculptor and snow carver will be once again building ice slides for children to enjoy on their PA Day. And all day Friday, you will find him carving his fantastic ice sculptures in Springer Market Square.
Imagination on Ice takes centre stage on Saturday, February 2nd. A bad news, good news story, Olympic Gold Medal winning pairs skaters Duhamel and Radford were booked many months ago. Sadly, Meagan Duhamel is injured and unable to perform but the good news is, Kingston favourite Kurt Browning has come to our rescue and will be headlining the show at 1pm along with up-and-coming local talent.
Saturday evening will feature the first of many DJ Skate Nights – grab a friend and head on down for some fun, some exercise and some great tunes! On Sunday, cheer on the brave souls who jump into the frigid waters of Lake Ontario in support of the Special Olympics at 11am in Confederation Park – it’s the annual Polar Plunge!
Weekend 2 will focus on hockey. First, the annual Carr-Harris Cup takes place at Leon’s Centre on Thursday February 7th – puck drop is at 7:30pm. On Saturday, February 9th, it’s Hockey Day in Kingston with local atom and novice boys and girls taking to the rink. Historic Hockey Tournament will also take place that afternoon with games between Queen’s, RMC and CFB Petawawa, and hockey legend, Leaf Bobby Baun will be on site signing autographs. A special event this year is the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Kingston’s Red Barons – a group of pioneering women’s hockey players. A full day of hockey on the Springer Market Square rink!
Weekend 3 is Family Day weekend with activities for everyone to enjoy. The focus will be on curling with opportunities to watch and try for yourself. Check out An Artsy Afternoon on Sunday the 17th in many downtown galleries and businesses. Enjoy all that Feb Fest has to offer – public skating, horse drawn wagon rides, fire pits, beavertails, comfy chairs and more.
Weekend 4 will feature other winter activities such as ringette – check our website for regular updates on events. And back again this year is a full month of Toast to Tapas – get your passport at the beginning of the month at participating restaurants and enjoy local tapas and local beverages all month long!
