Queen’s Engineering students are inviting you to check out the setting for this year’s Science Formal, where Grant Hall has been transformed into the Laguna Di Venezia – the city of Venice in northern Italy. Entry to the Open House will be by donation to the United Way.

RELEASE — For one day only, and in support of United Way, Queen’s Engineering students will open the doors of the 2017 Science Formal and give the community a sneak peek into their highly anticipated Science Formal.

This year, they’re working hard to transform Grant Hall into the Laguna Di Venezia. Visitors can take a trip to northern Italy and explore the famous city of Venice as the magical city takes shape inside the walls of Grant Hall.

The Open House will take place on Saturday, November 4, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. During this time Grant Hall will be open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door. This is a unique opportunity for the community to view the amazing design and sets, the result of months of hard work by the 4th year engineering students.

“Our team puts in a tremendous amount of work into this project and we love giving our community a chance to see what we create.” says Kristen Wadey, Sci’18 Communications Chair. “We invite everyone to come and see it for themselves by donation, with proceeds supporting the local United Way. We hope to see you on November 4!”

The Science Formal dates back to the early 1900’s and has evolved into a formal black-tie affair that showcases the talent of Queen’s Engineering students. In1923 students introduced elaborate designs and large structures. 1943 marked the beginning of major themes such as James Bond, Atlantis, Planet Earth and, last year’s theme, the Golden Age of Film.

The Open House is an exclusive opportunity to see the creativity and design of Queen’s Engineering Students. Entry to the Open House will be by donation to the United Way. Over the past thirteen years the Science Formal Open House has raised over $15,000 for United Way.
