2011 RMC Graduation Ceremonies To Be Held This Week

KINGSTON, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – May 16, 2011) – More than 200 Officer and Naval Cadets will celebrate their graduation from the Royal Military College (RMC) of Canada with several events on May 19 and 20, 2011.

The public and the media are invited to attend the two days of events which mark the end of the Cadets four years of training at RMC, and the beginning of their new careers in the Canadian Forces.

Convocation Ceremonies will be held on Thursday, May 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingston Military Community Sports Centre Field House. The Minister of National Defence, The Honourable Peter MacKay, Chancellor of RMC, will present graduating students with their Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degrees. Two Honorary Degrees will also be presented to the former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable James Bartleman, and the founder of the True Patriot Love Foundation, Mr. Shaun Francis.

Beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, the traditional Sunset Ceremony will be held on the RMC Parade Square. The event will be opened by the Canadian Forces premier skydiving team, the SkyHawks, and will include the Old 18 Historic Drill Team, the Sandhurst Military Skills Team, and dynamic performances featuring RMC`s own Brass and Reed and Pipe and Drum bands, as well as the Highland Dancers. Fireworks will conclude the evening.

On Friday, May 20 beginning at 10 a.m. the Graduation and Commissioning Parade will be held on the RMC Parade Square. General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, along with Environmental and Operational Commanders, will present graduating cadets with their Officer Commissions in the Canadian Forces. The graduates will then parade through the Memorial Arch for the last time as a class. The ceremony will include a fly past by the Snowbirds Demonstration Team.
