Kingston Road Closures & Delays: October 14 to 18

Following is a list of road construction projects and events provided by the City of Kingston that are expected to have an impact on traffic flow next week:

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians: review the listing of streets and related messages below for travel information of interest to you.

Traffic and pedestrian impacts this week:

Closures:

* Frontenac Street – Jenkins to Princess – closed until Dec. 2 for construction of an apartment building at 501 Frontenac St.
* King Street – The Tragically Hip Way to Place d’Armes – closed 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 20 for the World of Dance Show.
* Point St. Mark Drive – at Gore – The entrance/exit onto Point St. Mark Drive is closed until the end of the Third Crossing construction. Pedestrian access to the library and dog park remains open as does the sidewalk on the southeast side of Gore Road.
* Sydenham Street – Brock to Johnson – closed 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 15 to allow a crane to hoist material and equipment onto Hotel Dieu Hospital.
* Victoria Street – Princess to South Bartlett – closed until mid-November. See Victoria Street listing under “Delays section” for more details.

Delays:

* Bath Road (Westbound lanes) – from 275 metres east of Gardiners to just past Days – expect minor delays and lane restrictions while accessing businesses on the north side of Bath Road while Fer-Pal Construction Ltd. completes work on behalf of Utilities Kingston to reline the local water main. Expect lane restrictions at the Bath Road and Days Road intersection.

+ Bath Road Westbound at Days Road – Right lane closed while crews are working in the area.
+ Days Road Northbound at Bath Road – Left lane onto Bath Road westbound reduced to one lane while crews are working in the area.

* Bayridge Drive – Princess to Cedarwood – expect delays until mid-October while crews complete asphalt resurfacing.
* Cataraqui Business Park – expect delays on Fortune Crescent, Resource Road and Centennial Road North as crews reinforce the gas network to support the expansion of the business park.
* Gibson and Oakridge avenues – expect delays while Utilities Kingston replaces a water main in the area.

* Highway 401 – at Highway 38/Gardiners Road – expect lane closures on the 401 until November 2020 and delays of up to 10 minutes nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the westbound 401. A new carpool lot will open here Nov. 30, 2019. Ontario highway updates are offered by the Ministry of Transportation.
* Highway 15 – Highway 401 to 500m north of Burnt Hills – expect daily lane closures weekdays through November for culvert replacement and rehabilitation.
* Jackson Mills Road – Bur Brook Road to 400m south (near the K&P Trail) – reduced to one lane for roadside safety improvements. Both directions remain open.

* John Counter Boulevard – Princess to Indian – expect increased delays until the summer of 2021 while crews construct a new four-lane road and rail overpass. MOTORISTS: Don’t get stopped on the tracks! Ensure there is enough space on the opposite side before crossing.
* Johnson Street – Sydenham to Bagot – Expect minor delays and lane restrictions while Utilities Kingston crews prepare to reline the local watermain. Johnson Street will be reduced to a single lane when crews are working in the area. On Oct. 15 and 16, parking adjacent to Hotel Dieu Hospital on the north side of Johnson Street will be restricted and lanes may shift while crews install a fire hydrant.
* King Street – at Maitland – expect delays from Oct. 15 to 30 while crews complete the construction of sidewalks.

* La Salle Causeway – Public Services and Procurement Canada has advised of the following upcoming disruptions to the operation of the Causeway:

+ Oct. 15 and 16 – expect delays due to lane reductions 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
+ Oct. 17 and 18 – midnight to 6 a.m. the bridge will be raised for periods of up to 30 minutes and will be lowered to permit pedestrians and emergency vehicles to pass. (No additional daytime lane closures are planned.) Questions can be directed to this email address.

* Old Mill Road – expect delays until mid-October to allow crews to adjust the road elevation to match the new section of John Counter Boulevard.
* Stanely Street – Landsdowne to Division – expect delays as Utilities Kingston installs a water main.

* Strathcona Park water main relining – expect minor traffic delays on the following streets while Fer-Pal Construction Ltd. completes work on behalf of Utilities Kingston to reline the local water main:

+ Elizabeth Avenue – from Jane to Avenue Road
+ Jane Avenue – from Kings Gate /Nottingham to Avenue Road
+ McMahon Avenue – from McMichael to Avenue Road

* Sydenham Road – north of 401 – expect minor traffic delays on the streets below while Fer-Pal Construction Ltd. completes work on behalf of Utilities Kingston to reline the local water main:

+ Mildred Street – from Sunnyside to Sydenham Road
+ Audrey Street – from Floyd to Jesse
+ Jesse Crescent – from Mildred to the end
+ Floyd Avenue – from Mildred to Sunnyside

* Victoria Street – Princess to Concession – expect minor delays, lane restrictions and road closures (see above) throughout the fall while Len Corcoran Excavating Ltd. completes work on behalf of Utilities Kingston work to replace sewers and water mains in the area. Drivers should also expect lane restrictions at the Princess/Victoria intersection.
* Westdale Avenue – expect delays until late October while crews pave the road.

Sidewalks and pedestrian pathways:

* Bath Road – 275 m east of Gardiners to Days – expect localized closures on the north-side sidewalk.
* Clarence Street – King to halfway to Wellington – the east-side sidewalk is closed to accommodate fencing for work to the roof of the British Whig Building.

* King Street – at Maitland – expect delays from Oct. 15 to 30 while crews complete the construction of sidewalks.
* Lochinvar – Inverness East to Inverness West – expect delays until late October while crews remove and replace sidewalks.

* Strathcona Park water main project – Fer-Pal Construction Ltd is completing work on behalf of Utilities Kingston to reline and install new water mains to improve the water distribution system in this area:

+ Expect localized sidewalk closures on these streets:

o Elizabeth Avenue – from Jane to Avenue Road
o Jane Avenue – from Kings Gate/Nottingham to Avenue Road
o McMahon Avenue – from McMichael to Avenue Road

+ Expect the pedestrian access pathways to be closed in these locations:

o Gretna Green to Indian Road
o Stormont Avenue to Westmoreland Road, through O’Connor Park

* Scott Street – Caruthers to Napier – expect delays until Oct. 25 while crews continue sidewalk reconstruction.
* Stephen Street – Cowdy to Patrick – expect delays until late October while crews continue sidewalk reconstruction.
* York Street – Albert to Nelson – expect delays until Oct. 25 while crews continue sidewalk reconstruction.
