Kingston Road Closures & Delays: October 21 to 27

Below is a list of road construction projects and events expected to have an impact on traffic flow next week in Kingston:

MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION

For updates on Highway 401 construction visit the Ministry of Transportation’s website at roadinfo.mto.gov.on.ca or call 5-1-1. However, MTO has advised of the following 401 closures in the vicinity of Highway 15 next week:

– Oct. 23 to 27: alternating nightly closure between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., westbound on ramp (coming from the south) at Hwy 401 and Division alternating with eastbound on ramp at Hwy 401 and Sir John A. Macdonald Blvd. Please note these ramps closures will alternate and not be closed at the same time.

– Oct. 23 to 27: lane reductions along Hwy 15 near Hwy 401 between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

– Note: the on and off ramps at Hwy 401 and Hwy 15 will not be closed during the overnight closures on the La Salle Causeway (see below)

LA SALLE CAUSEWAY

Public Works Canada: La Salle Causeway will be closed to motor vehicles overnight between 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Sunday Oct. 22 to Thursday Oct. 26. The bridge will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.

CONSTRUCTION ROAD CLOSURES

– Division Street will be closed from William to Johnson until early November.
– Division Street will be closed from Johnson to Brock until late November.
– Expect eastbound lane closures and traffic delays on Taylor Kidd Boulevard between Bayridge and Old Colony until December to allow for new watermain construction by Utilities Kingston.

– Front Road will be closed from King St. West to Sandy Bay Lane starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 to 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23 to allow for OWS Railroad Construction and Maintenance to renew the rail crossing.
– Victoria Street will be closed from South Bartlett to Princess on Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow for a crane hoist at 663 Princess St. by Superior Crane.
– Market Street will be closed on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Kingston Public Market.

CONSTRUCTION ROAD DELAYS

Motorists and cyclists should expect delays on these roadways due to road construction and bridge construction:

– Bath Road from Frontenac Secondary School to Vista Drive 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. – minor delays and lane shifts in eastbound traffic until November to allow for Utilities Kingston work. At the end of the work day, both eastbound lanes will open to traffic.
– John Counter Boulevard from Sir John A. Macdonald to Portsmouth until early November while crews complete the road widening.
– Johnson Street at Division until mid-November while crews reconstruct the underground infrastructure.

– Front Road from east entrance of INVISTA to Trailhead Place until end of year while crews reconstruct the bridge.
– Westbound Princess Street from Sir John A. Macdonald to Concession – lane reductions to allow for Utilities Kingston watermain work until the end of construction season.
– Centennial Drive from Resource to Crossfield – lane reductions due to Utilities Kingston sanitary-sewer work until the end of construction season.

Expect delays and lane shifts in all directions of traffic at the intersection of King Street West and Portsmouth while crews for Providence Care Hospital restore the pavement in the intersection. Works are scheduled to occur between the hours of  9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Thursday October 26th and Friday October 27th, weather permitting. The intersection is to be clear of construction equipment and all lanes open after 3 p.m.. Please note that signals will be off and the intersection will be controlled by Kingston Police at various stages throughout this work.

ROAD REPAIRS

Cold-patch is used to fill cracks and potholes. But some roads require more substantial asphalt repairs that will last up to five years.  Over the next two months, contractors for the City will be repairing the following roads:

– Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard from Highway 401 to Union Street
– Gardiners Road from Highway 401 to Bath Road

SIDEWALK DISRUPTIONS

– Both sides of Division Street between Johnson and William streets – pedestrians are required to walk on a granular path.
