Kingston Road Closures & Delays: October 6 to 13

Below is a list of road construction projects and events expected to have an impact on traffic flow next week in Kingston:

CONSTRUCTION ROAD CLOSURES

– Division Street will be closed from Earl to William and William to Johnson until mid-October.
– Expect eastbound lane closures and traffic delays on Taylor Kidd Boulevard between Bayridge and Old Colony until December to allow for new watermain construction by Utilities Kingston.
– The intersection to Oakview Avenue at Taylor-Kidd Boulevard will be closed between Oct. 4 and 12, for two days to accommodate watermain installation by Utilities Kingston. Detour to Amberdale.
– Nelson will be closed from Princess to the south edge of the work site until 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6 to allow for a crane hoist.
– Market Street will be closed from Ontario to King from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11 to accommodate a crane hoist.
– Union St. will be closed from University to Division 5 to 9 p.m.  from Friday, Oct. 13 to Sunday, Oct. 15 for the Alma Mater Society Reunion Festival.
– Front Road will be closed from King St. West to Sandy Bay Lane 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Friday, Oct. 20 to Monday, Oct. 23 to allow for OWS Railroad Construction and Maintenance to renew the rail crossing.

Contractors for Queen’s University are constructing an addition to Botterell Hall along the George Street side. To facilitate construction George Street will be closed to thru traffic from Stuart to O’Kill from 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16 to 5 p.m. on Friday Oct. 20. Please follow the posted detour routes to access Kingston General Hospital. George Street may reopen the morning of Friday, Oct. 20 (depending on the weather and the progress of work).

CONSTRUCTION ROAD DELAYS

Motorists and cyclists should expect delays on these roadways due to road construction and bridge construction:

– Gardiners and Cataraqui Woods – from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  until Oct. 10 expect delays at the intersection to allow for overnight watermain construction by Utilities Kingston.
– King Street West at Portsmouth Avenue – expect delays and lane shifts in all directions of traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12 and Friday, Oct. 13 as Providence Care Hospital crews work to restore pavement. NOTE: signals will occasionally be off and Kingston Police will control the intersection.
– Centennial Drive will be restricted to local traffic only between Venture to Resource until early October.
– Resource Road will be restricted to local traffic only between Venture to Centennial until early October.
– Bath Road from Frontenac Secondary School to Vista Drive 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. – minor delays and lane shifts in eastbound traffic until November to allow for Utilities Kingston work. At the end of the work day, both eastbound lanes will open to traffic.
– John Counter Boulevard from Sir John A. Macdonald to Portsmouth until early November while crews complete the road widening.
– Johnson Street at Division until mid-November while crews reconstruct the underground infrastructure.
– Front Road from east entrance of INVISTA to Trailhead Place until end of year while crews reconstruct the bridge.
– Westbound Princess Street from Sir John A. Macdonald to Concession – lane reductions to allow for Utilities Kingston watermain work until the end of construction season.
– Centennial Drive from Resource to Crossfield – lane reductions due to Utilities Kingston sanitary-sewer work until the end of construction season.

ROAD REPAIRS

Cold-patch is used to fill cracks and potholes. But some roads require more substantial asphalt repairs that will last up to five years.  Over the next two months, contractors for the City will be repairing the following roads:

•       Burbrook Road from Jackson Mills Road and Sydenham Road
•       McIvor Road from Sydenham Road to Highway 38
•       Highway 2 west of Collins Bay Road to western city limit
•       Morenz Crescent
•       Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard from Highway 401 to Union Street
•       Gardiners Road from Highway 401 to Bath Road
•       Front Road from Sunny Acres to east entrance of INVISTA

SIDEWALK DISRUPTIONS

– Both sides of Division Street between Johnson and Earl streets – pedestrians are required to walk on a granular path.
