Starting August 8, all Grade 9 through 12 students in Kingston will be able to renew or sign-up for their free Kingston Transit bus pass for the 2017-18 academic school year.

“Bus passes for high school students help our youth learn the environmental, economic, and social benefits of public transportation. Our goal is to make them lifelong transit users,” says Mayor Bryan Paterson. “It also gives youth an opportunity to work, volunteer and participate in community events giving them a greater connection to the Kingston community at large.”

Students attending public, separate, and private schools or receiving a home-based education are eligible for the free pass. The high school Kingston Transit pass will be valid from Sept. 1 until the end of August 2018.

“The Kingston Transit high school bus program has been a great success with students across Kingston, as well as a big hit with teachers, parents and guardians,” says Jeremy DaCosta, general manager, Kingston Transit. “In 2016 alone, 567,000 high school students rode with Kingston Transit. Free public transit offers youth a greater level of independence.”
