UPDATE – Kingston Police report that the driver of the truck has been identified:

With the assistance of video footage from one of the cyclist’s mounted camera a 46-year-old Kingston area man was identified and charged by Kingston Police Uniform Patrol.

Video footage recorded by a fellow cyclist was able to catch the company name of the dump truck. The local business was contacted by the investigating Uniform Patrol Constable and the driver was quickly identified the same day. Both the company owner and employee were cooperative with police and it was determined there was no intent to strike or harm the cyclist.

The driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with “Fail to turn out to left to avoid collision.” If convicted the offence carries a $110 fine and two demerit points will be added to the man’s driving record.

Kingston Police report they are searching for a dump truck and its driver, after it collided with a cyclist in the Kingston East area and failed to remain at the scene.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 16 as a group of cyclists were traveling along Abbey Dawn Road.

According to police, a northbound dark blue dump truck towing an unloaded yellow flatbed trailer passed the group and the trailer caught the tire of one of the bicycles. That contact caused the rider to fall off, receiving what police describe as minor injuries and was then transported to hospital via ambulance.

Investigating officers are reviewing video footage from a bicycle-mounted camera for additional evidence related to the collision and to assist in identifying the truck.

Police are attempting to determine if the driver of the dump truck, last seen heading towards Middle Road, was aware of this contact with the cyclist.
