On October 17th, just one day before the world learned of the tragic passing of singer-songwriter Gord Downie, The Tragically Hip announced the official brand name of its medical marijuana.

The band posted to their site: “We’re excited to announce Up Cannabis as the official brand of our medical marijuana partnership with Newstrike.”

New Strike is Canada’s ‘newest, soon to be public, licensed producers of medicinal marijuana’, according to a release posted by The Hip this past May.

The band points out in the earlier release that medical marijuana is legal in Canada and provides benefits to the health and well being many Canadians.

Brantford, Ontario-based New Strike received its cultivation license on December 19, 2016 and states it intends to ‘develop a diverse network of high quality cannabis brands that addresses the needs of medical clients and eventually, as the law allows, adult consumers’.
