SOCKS Kingston Seeks More Businesses for Collection Stations

The mandate for the SOCKS organization is to put fresh clean socks on the feet of anyone who needs them, whether they live on the streets, just can’t make ends meet or even emergency services.

992 pairs of new socks were locally collected between mid-November and the end of December, and the Kingston chapter of the group – who aim to attack poverty “one tiny toe at a time” – are planning an even more successful 2017 by opening new collection stations in the city.

Participating businesses simply place a box, bin or basket to collect new socks that will be distributed in our community.

Along with opening more collection stations, SOCKS Kingston plans to hold more collection events as well.

For anyone interested in finding out more information – and local businesses considering hosting a collection bin of their own – email them at sockskingston@gmail.com or tweet their Twitter account @socks_kingston.

Founded by Terrol McFarlane Maciver in September of 2014, the SOCKS organization has quickly grown with Ontario cities and towns being added throughout the year. Over 23,000 pairs of socks were collected throughout the province in 2016.

According to its Facebook page, the long term goal is to see a SOCKS organization in every Canadian town and city.
