Family & Children’s Services Seek Donors to Send Kids to Camp

Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington recebntly started summer early this year by launching its new fundraising program, raising money to send 50 deserving kids to Summer camp.

“It doesn’t look much like Summer outside, but children all across Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington are already thinking about July and August,” said said Steve Woodman, Executive Director of Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington. “They want to go to Summer camp. But some of the children we serve won’t be able to go this year. They won’t get the Summer they deserve without help from donors across our community.”

The agency reports that many of the children they serve face barriers to going to Summer camp. The hurdles include financial status, children with special needs, and other considerations.

Without some assistance, most of these children would never have the opportunity to go to a day or overnight Summer camp.

Steve Woodman said that they started Summer early this year so they could draw the public’s attention to their campaign in hopes of sending those children to camp, adding that “We can’t do it without support from donors like you.”

Family and Children’s Services will need to raise $10,000 to send at least 50 children in the Kingston area to various Summer camps that include “Kool Kamp”, the Agency’s own specialized camp.

Donors have already helped send almost 1,000 deserving children to Summer camp since 2005 and this year’s campaign will rely on donations this year as well.

“Summer is just around the corner. Can your family help one of our families send a child to Summer camp?” asked Woodman.
