[Updated below] Kingston, Ontario — After a 15 year hiatus, the International Rugby League is returning to Canada.
The new season will kick off with the Canadian Wolverines playing host to the USA Tomahawks on Sunday, 19th of September in Kingston, at 1:00 pm.
With the newly formed Canada Rugby League fielding its first ever representative side in last month’s ‘War on the Shore’ tournament, the primary focus now is to establish its profile within the country. The league hopes that the reintroduction of international football will achieve that goal.
Playing upon the friendly rivalry that has always existed between the U.S. and Canada, the organization believes that pitting these teams against each other will be the most logical step in drawing in the crowds and building up interest in the sport. In addition, the newly commissioned Colonial Cup will also ensure that the two countries will continue to challenge each other on an annual basis.
The Colonial Cup is certain to rekindle memories of the fierce rivalry that exists between both North American sides since back in 1987, and the organization believes that fans will definitely love the prospect of a return of annual clashes between these two nations.

The inaugural Colonial Cup match will be held Sunday, September 19 – 1:00pm at Richardson Memorial Stadium in Ontario, Kingston, at Queen’s University’s west campus [Google map].
