On Tuesday, September 6th, the Queen’s University community intends to make history by setting the Guinness World Record for “Largest Human Letter” – a giant Q.
UPDATE: They did it !!
The attempt will take place on Nixon Field, described as having a capacity of 4,000 participants. That should hold more than enough to beat the current record set in the States earlier this summer.
Since Guinness World Records requires that everyone wear one solid colour, a free gold t-shirt will be given to the first 4000 participants to arrive, with sizing based on a first come, first served basis. Anyone wanting to wear their own shirt can still join in, but that shirt must also be a solid yellow / gold colour.
Interested parties should bring a hat, a (non-glass) water bottle, and other items to help stay cool and protected from the sun. A Utilities Kingston water truck will be on site to get a drink or refill water bottles.
This free event is open to all members of the Queen’s Community and is fully accessible, with volunteers on hand to help anyone requiring assistance. It will go forward rain or shine – only unsafe weather will cause the event to be cancelled.
The current “Largest Human Letter” record was set just this past June by Dell Technologies (USA) in Round Rock, Texas. That group of 2,166 people formed the skewed “E” from the Dell logo on the baseball outfield at Dell Diamond Stadium.
Kingston is the home of at least two other Guinness World Record holders: Henry Banks, who made 50 elbow snatches of a die in 30 seconds on October 2013, and Jack and Donna Wright, who were recognized in 1994 for having the most cats in their home – 689! Their house (and the cats) were later featured in the Tragically Hip video “Poets”.
